I once read of a Christian who compared his life, before he became a Christian, to a person on a suspension bridge.  His life was like a person standing in the middle of the suspension bridge who could not see the beginning or ending as far as he could see.  Therefore, the middle part was meaningless as well.  This view of life plunged him into such despair that he attempted to commit suicide.  He said he failed at that attempt as he had failed at everything else.  Indeed, life for him meant failure.

However, when he accepted Christ as his Savior, his vision cleared.  He could see that life had a beginning.  He was a valuable person in God’s eyes.  His origin and existence were not meaningless to the Father in heaven.  He also could see that his life was moving toward a destiny, which was not insecure, or frightening, but was life with God.  He found Christ’s statement to be true: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the father but by me.” (John 3:6)  Christ became the complete bridge for his origin, existence and destiny.

In reading this, I could not help but think of those I know for whom life has no real beginning and certainly no ending.  How sad that so many are empty and have no ultimate goal toward which life moves for them.  Jesus extends His invitation to whosoever.  How marvelous to read John 3:16 and realize that our name can be inserted.  “For god so loved _____that He gave His only begotten Son, that if _____would believe on Him, _____should not perish but have everlasting life.” (You can supply your name in the blanks.)  I hope that you can, and if you cannot, I pray you will. All one has to do is, in simple child-like faith, trust yourself to God’s keeping.

There are so many who need to accept Christ as Lord and Savior.  I hope you will join me in sharing our faith and in prayer that God, through His Holy Spirit will speak to those individuals.

Devotedly,

  Bro. Nick Randall.
