First Church Building 1959
The First Church Buiding and Building History: The first church services were held in the abandoned one room school house with two Sunday School rooms added in March 1947. In 1953, a choir loft was added and the front of the building was renovated. In 1959, a major renovation took place when a new worship center was erected with a sanctuary and a basement which included Sunday school rooms with a fellowship hall. In 1972, the note for paving the parking lot and carpeting the sanctuary was paid in full. On April 23, 1972, the front porch with four columns were added; along with a new church steeple and wheel chair ramp. In 1979, new pews and carpet were installed in the sanctuary. In July 1980, ground breaking took place for the annex, which houses the church offices, nursery, two preschool classes and Sunday School office. This annex opened in 1981,
including an extended parking lot. Ground was broken for a new education building in February 1986 for the adult department of the Sunday School on the top floor and a new fellowship hall on the bottom floor. It was completed in time to have Sunday School in this new facility the first Sunday of 1987. Other improvements to the church facilities began in 1990 which included the basement of the sanctuary where the Youth and Children’s Learning Center is located. This improvement included adding sheet rock to all the walls and painting of same. Also, new tile was installed throughout the Center. Subsequently, the sanctuary was completely renovated with an extended pulpit area, replacing pews and carpeting, new light fixtures and stain glass windows. A great deal of the work over the years has been completed and financed through self-help church members. However, construction of the Annex and Education Building were contracted out. |
