Meet the Sunday School Staff
-
Pastor: Bro. Thomas Barnard
Bro. Thomas has been our pastor for the past two years. His leadership and wisdom has been exciting. He has generated excitement in the church that has brought everyone to get excited for the Lord. His inspiring messages are always right on time and the message is one that stirs excitement in the Heart of the Lords people. He is truly an encourager and not only is he a wonderful preacher but he is an excellent Pastor. His 56 years of ministry has prepared him for a ministry that is second to none.
Pete has been a member of OBC since 1987. He loves the Lord and enjoys doing things with all of the groups of the Church. He shares bus driving duties, is a Deacon, and sings in the choir. He desires to see God’s Kingdom expanded to reach all of the little children.

Asst Director: Glen Dalton
Glen was raised in Oakland Baptist Church and has been very active in the past several years. Glen is a member of the Young Couples class and is married to his wonderful wife Julie who is also very active in the church through the Children's’ dept. and VBS.

Mary is one of the sweetest ladies that one could ever meet. She has a great passion for her Lord and loves children and especially her grand-children. She has been the Sunday School Secretary for several years and I would be lost without her.
Pre School Department

2-3 yr. olds: Inez McGrath
Fun Loving Christian who stepped up to fill a very important void in our Sunday school program. Her and her husband Ted has been very involved in the kitchen committee and property committee in the recent years.

4-5 yr. olds: Mrs. Elaine Weaver/Jan Diehl
Ms. Elaine has recently joined us from the sunshine state of Florida. She is a devoted Christian lady who instantly wanted to take a part in God’s work. She is excited and is sure to have a class that will be exciting and spiritually filled.
Jan Diehl has been a wonderful asset to our church not only in the church but the community. She and her husband Ron are true servants of God and have proved to be a true asset at Oakland. She oves working with children and is a great asset in helping Ms. Elaine.
Children’s Department

Children’s Dir: Kitty Mantz
Kitty and her husband Dean have been very devoted to the church over the past several years. Kitty has served as the WMU Director and has done a quality job. Kitty has four wonderful Grand Children who she loves to spend time with Kitty will be a great asset to the Sunday School program, especially the children’s department.

1-2 Grades: Terry Efird/Pam Barnard
Terry has been a member at Oakland for about 2 years and has been very active with the children. She and her husband Scott hail from the Tar heel state and Scott serves on the board of Deacons at Oakland.
Pam and her husband Phillip has recently joined but stepped right in and is very active directing the outreach program and Phillip sings in the choir and has the Young members Sunday School class.

3-4 Grades: Glenda Blackburn/Geraldine Gaston
Glenda has been a long time teacher here at OBC. Children love her and she is one of the greatest teachers we have been fortunate to have. We are very happy to have her back teaching children for the Lord. She is married to her wonderful husband “Bud” and loves spending time with her Grandchildren.
Geraldine has been a long time member of OBC and has been very active in Children and Youth depts.when her son was growing up at OBC. She loves the Lord and enjoys teaching them. She also teaches Sunday School to shut ins through the week with the Off Campus program at OBC. Their Grand Children keeps her husband Gary busy just ensuring she is at the right place at the right time. Gary is a very devoted member of the couples class and was very active with the youth program as a counselor when his son was in the youth.

5-6th Grades: Irene Barnard/ Mary Crook
Ms. Irene came to Oakland with her wonderful husband our Pastor. From the first day she talked about how she loved teaching the children. She is excited to be able to show her love to all of them that she can. She loves and adores each of her grandchildren and I know she will show her students the same love.
Mary Crook has been a long time member and worker at Oakland Baptist. She and her husband James has been involved with the youth until their children went to college and since has been very involved in teaching children and James has been the Treasure of the church for several years. They love kids and take a lot of time with their grand children both in Byron and Atlanta.
Youth Department
Bubba and Karan have been very active in the church for since they joined several years ago. They have been teaching the youth Sunday school class for the past three years. Prior to that they were very active in the young couples Sunday school class. Bubba plays the guitar for the church orchestra. They have three lovely children and are in love with the Lord and deeply in love with each other. They are a couple who inspires every married couple.
Adult Department

Young Married and College: Phillip/Pam Barnard & Jay Herrera
Phillip and his wife came to the church in the spring of this year and have not slowed down one bit. They have been active in the Sunday school program and the Outreach program almost instantaneous. Phillip also sings in the choir and Pam is helping with the first and second graders. Jay Herrera has been and continues to be a mainstay around OBC. He and his lovely wife Nina and their two children are wonderful assets to OBC and Jay is the substitute teacher fro Phil and Pam in addition to his many other tasks at the church.

Singles/Singles Again: Lucille Allen, Ellen Lambert, Irene Carte
Lucille has been an active member for longer than I have been at Oakland. Lucille has been in charge of the youth program for years, been in the choir, taught Sunday School, been a Deacon’s wife, and leads theS ingles and Singes Again activities. will surely be blessed.
Ellen Lambert has been with the church several years and has been one of the mainstays of the singles and singles again class. Ellen graciously stepped up to allow the Lord to user her as a teacher with the class and help Ms. Lucille and Irene to keep the class going well.This class is an inspiration to the church and is very active due to the leadership of Ms. Lucille, Ms. Ellen, and Ms. Irene.
Ms. Irene is a devoted person who stepped up to the call to help as a teacher in the class. This class has been very dependable and devoted in attendance to the church and Sunday School. Ms. Irene can be proud to be a leader of such fine ladies
Pete has been a member of OBC since 1987 and has been a Deacon since 1989. He has been teaching for several years in this class and is now serving as the Sunday school Dir. also. He is friendly and would love to grow his class and would welcome any visitors at anytime. He is accompanied by his lovely wife Joyce who has been his main stay and support through their ministry. He could not do what he does for the Lord without her assistance.
Bob has been a teacher of this class for at least 20 years. Bob is a well studied traveler of the middle east especially Israel. He is a history buff of the Bible and his classes are very interesting when it comes to the history of the lessons. Bob is a Deacon and very active in the activities of the Church. His Love for the Lord is his highest priority. You would thoroughly enjoy his class. He and his lovely wife Fran make a great welcoming committee to his class. Fran is a very talented singer and enjoys singing for the Lord and is a member of the choir.

Ruth Ladies Class: Betty Lynch
Betty has been teaching the Ruth Ladies for the past 5 years. She is a lovely lady who Loves the Lord and enjoys teaching the ladies class. She and her husband David have been very active in the Church and being in her class would be a joy for you. It is wonderful to be able to go into a class where everyone is on fire for the Lord. If you want to get fired up for the Lord this is the class for you.

Men’s Class: Gregory Kennedy
Greg has been teaching for about six months but is no rookie when it comes to teaching the word of the Lord. Greg also serves as a Deacon and his lovely wife Nita is active in a Sunday School Class and the activities of the church. If you have reached the responsible age of the men’s class they would enjoy having you as a member to enhance their class and discuss the word of the Lord.

Victory Ladies Class: Eloise Bailey
Eloise is a cornerstone of OBC. She has been teaching for more than 25 years and does a wonderful job with the Victory Ladies Class. This is a class that hardly ever grows, but Eloise has grown his class and continues to grow it. These ladies are known for their wisdom and their praying ability. When you need to put prayers up to the Father all you have to do is get a hold of the Victory Ladies Class. She has a burning desire to serve the Lord.

Off Campus Ministry: Eva Horne
Eva is on fire for her Lord. She has been very active in the church and felt the calling to start an off campus ministry for Sunday school at nursing homes. She has between 135-145 people that she teaches each week at the different nursing homes in the community. Additionally, anyone who is homebound can count on Ms. Eva to be there to teach them the lesson each week. She is a true warrior for the Lord. Ms. Eva is assisted in her teaching at the homes by Geraldine Gaston and Elaine Weaver. Their ministry is above and beyond the call. The people that they minister to look forward to their coming each week. The Off campus ministry has been one of the highlights of Oakland Baptist Church.
